Hurstpierpoint College
Hurstpierpoint College was founded in 1849 as the second of Nathaniel Woodard’s Schools. Its 140 acre campus lies in a beautiful location close to the South Downs, and is well served by major roads, especially the M23. There is easy access to Haywards Heath, Brighton and the south coast.
The College is amongst the most successful independent schools in Sussex. It is co-educational and comprises a Senior School, Preparatory School, and Pre Prep with some 1,000 pupils in all. Approximately two-thirds of the pupils in the Senior School are boarders (full or part-time) whilst the vast majority of the Preparatory School’s pupils are day pupils.
The Headmaster and Bursar are responsible for the day-to-day management of the College. The Bursar’s role corresponds to that of Chief Operating Officer, and he is Finance Director and Company Secretary to the Board of Directors, who are the Governors of the College. In addition to his financial management responsibilities, the Bursar has overall responsibility for the administrative management of the College as a whole, including control of the Human Resources function, the school’s domestic services, its non-teaching staff, grounds and buildings. The College employs over 300 staff.
